OpenAI has announced an update that improves GPT-5.5 Instant Model And several older models have been removed from ChatGPT, including O3 and GPT-4.5. The company shared this information in an updated release notes document.
The update focuses on improving the response quality and style of GPT-5.5, as well as phasing out older models to optimize computing resources. GPT-5.5 Instant was first released on April 23 and continues to receive updates until May 2026.
GPT-5.5 quick fix, and legacy model retirement
OpenAI indicates that the updated GPT-5.5 will deliver more accurate responses and feature an improved writing style. The main changes include shorter, less bullet-heavy replies designed to sound more human, as well as replies that are more natural and easier to read in everyday conversations.
The update also improves the speed for practical assistance functions. These adjustments are intended to make ChatGPT feel more conversational and less formulaic.
OpenAI is retiring two older models from ChatGPT in favor of newer, more capable models:
- GPT-4.5 will be shut down on June 27th after a 30-day sunset period
- O3 will be retired on August 26 after a 90-day sunset period
Both models are currently only available to paid ChatGPT users. OpenAI notes that while ongoing demand for o3 is limited, GPT-4.5 has more dedicated followers. GPT-4.5 was closer to GPT-4o in practice, which made it more personal to some users and contributed to its appeal.
Users who rely on these models should plan to switch to GPT-5.5 or another available model before their respective retirement dates.
New job search integration in ChatGPIT and when will these changes go into effect
OpenAI is introducing a new job search feature to ChatGPT. This update enables ChatGPT to display live job listings and freelance opportunities.
According to OpenAI’s release notes, it can get listings from sources like Indeed, Upwork, AppCast, and various websites on the internet. Results are tailored to the user’s experience, skills and goals, helping to highlight relevant roles. Users can follow the links to apply directly on the original sites.
In addition to the job search feature, OpenAI has enhanced ChatGPT’s capabilities for creating resumes, editing existing ones, and exporting them in professional formats.
Implementation of GPT-5.5 improvements and job search integration is gradually happening around the world. OpenAI has not announced any specific date for a full global rollout.
Model retirement follows the established schedule, with GPT-4.5 being phased out from ChatGPT on June 27 and O3 on August 26.
