Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Adds 7-Day Campaign Early Access for Digital Preorders | Free Download

Activision and Infinity Ward have announced that digital pre-orders of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will grant early access to the campaign starting on October 16, a week before the game’s official release on October 23. This early access is exclusive to digital pre-orders.

Modern Warfare 4 is the first Call of Duty game to leave a previous generation console. It will be available on Xbox Series

What’s included in digital preorder, and Game Pass delay

Digital pre-orders on October 16 unlock the following: access to the full Modern Warfare 4 campaign a week before public launch, the pre-order Operator Bundle already announced, and standard launch-day access to multiplayer and DMZ modes on October 23.

Early Access does not apply to physical pre-orders.

Despite being a first-party title from Microsoft, Modern Warfare 4 will not be available on Xbox Game Pass or PC Game Pass until October 23, 2027, which is a year after its launch.

This delay follows Microsoft’s recent restructuring of Game Pass following a price increase in October 2025, which led to the loss of subscribers.

Additionally, new Call of Duty releases were removed from Game Pass availability on day one as part of a reduction in the Game Pass Ultimate subscription price to $22.99 per month.

Campaign story, spoiler risk and trailer demo

The campaign focuses its attention on Private Park, where a young South Korean soldier faces live combat after North Korea launches a full-scale invasion of the South. The struggle becomes the front line of the campaign.

Captain Price Returns, voiced by Barry Sloane, motivated to avenge the death of Soap MacTavish at the hands of series rival Makarov. The reveal trailer shows Price working with former TF141 rival Valeria “El Sin Nombre” Garza. It also includes an exchange between Price and the Ghost, where the Ghost accuses Price of breaking the rules. Price replies, “No more rules.”

Infinity Ward has been unusually transparent about the campaign’s story during its pre-release marketing. With early access to the campaign now available a week before the official launch, players who wait until the public release have a greater risk of experiencing spoilers via streams, social media, and discussion forums during the early access period.

Modern Warfare 4’s trailer has garnered 58 million views on YouTube within two weeks. This is more than the 49 million views the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 trailer received nine months ago. The positive response has led to discussion about the game’s potential commercial success.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is now available for pre-order at participating retailers, platform stores, or CallofDuty.com.
