Apple announced new AI-powered features for Safari at WWDC 2026, using Apple Intelligence to enhance tab management, password protection, browser customization, and page monitoring.
Apple emphasizes that these features are designed with privacy in mind and do not share browsing data with Apple or third parties.
Automatic password correction and AI tab organization in Safari
Safari and the Passwords app can now automatically recover compromised or weak passwords with just one tap. Using Apple Intelligence, the system visits the relevant website, signs in and updates the account to a strong password without any manual effort from the user.
Apple describes the feature as a password manager that “acts as an agent on the user’s behalf.” It builds on Safari’s existing ability to identify weak and compromised passwords, with the new ability to automatically fix problems in addition to existing alerts.
Safari can now automatically group open tabs into relevant topics based on their content. For example, tabs related to travel planning would be grouped together under a single travel topic.
As new tabs are opened during a session, Safari continues to add them to existing groups or create new tabs. Users do not need to manually categorize tabs.
Custom Safari extensions and new page change notifications from Details
A new feature called Describe an Extension allows users to create custom Safari extensions by explaining what they want in simple language. Safari then generates the extension and adds it to the toolbar.
Apple’s example involves creating a button that saves and rates recipes the user views. This feature is for users who want more control over their browser without writing any code.
The Notify Me feature lets users ask Safari to monitor a specific web page for changes such as product restocks or price drops. Users can specify what they’re looking for, and Safari will send a notification when it detects a matching change on that page.
This feature provides similar functions to third-party price tracking tools or RSS-style update monitoring but works directly within Safari.
Availability
Apple introduced new Safari features as part of its broader Apple Intelligence update during WWDC 2026. These features are scheduled to be released with iOS 27 and macOS 27 Golden Gate this autumn.
Siri AI and some Apple Intelligence capabilities will also launch in beta for English-language users later in the year. Availability for EU users on iOS and iPad may differ from Mac at launch.
